Castelluccio di Norcia: history and growth

Castelluccio di Norcia found its origins in the mists of time. A tale tells us that a Jevish colony, banned from Rome by emperor Vespasiano, settled itself on this land.

Senari's castle on an outpost land

The very first written evidences date back to XIII century, when on top of the hill where Castelluccio lies today there was only a small settlement named "Castello De' Senari" (the word comes from the Longobard term “senàita", meaning "border" or "outpost").
Castelluccio, today still looking as a place out of reality, was set up as Norcia's borough last outpost, and as a garrison for the common pastures.
